Surrounded by imposing mountain ranges, with the Obiqua Mountains to the west, the Winterhoek Mountains in the north and the Witzenberg Mountains to the east, nestles the rural village of Tulbagh. The Great Winterhoek Mountains tower 2077m above sea level and are scenically snow-capped in winter. This beautiful, serene and unspoiled valley provides the ideal destination for all seasons. Tulbagh provides an excellent starting point from which to explore the Cape Winelands and surrounding areas, be that on foot, on a cycle, on horseback or by car. Tulbagh is fast becoming the wedding destination of choice in the Western Cape and undoubtedly this is due to its immense beauty. Essere Lodge is immersed in the centre of Tulbagh’s rural area and is surrounded by woodlands, mountains and rivers. It is also incredibly private.

DIRECTIONS: POPULAR ROUTE FROM CAPE TOWN: (1 hour & 10 mins) Take the N1 north and exit left at the R44 (Wellington / Klapmuts) off-ramp. Continue for 22kms. Just before you enter Wellington, turn left into Distillery Street which is signposted R46 (Porterville / Ceres). After 40kms you will enter the Nuwekloof Pass. 2kms after exiting the pass, turn right into Tulbaghweg. In 1 km further, turn RIGHT again (at the very first crossing and opposite the Waterval turn-off). At the T-Junction (150m further) you will see our gate and signboard on your right. MORE SCENIC ROUTE VIA THE N7 / MALMESBURY / RIEBEECK KASTEEL (1 hour & 30 mins): (The route via the N7 and Malmesbury is a "Quick"alternative if there is rush-hour traffic on the N1 to Paarl) Take the N7 north (off the N1) towards Malmesbury. As you enter Malmesbury, exit left at the R46 (Darling / Malmesbury / Ceres) off-ramp. This will take you under the highway and into Malmesbury. Continue to the T-Junction and turn left into Voortrekker Road. Turn IMMEDIATELY RIGHT into Rainier Street (i.e. follow the 'Ceres' signs). As you go up the hill in Rainier Street, turn right again into Piet Retief which is signposted R45 Paarl / Riebeeck Kasteel. About 3kms out of Malmesbury (just after Swartland Wine Cellar), turn left at the road marked R46 Riebeeck Kasteel / Ceres. Stay on the R46 towards Ceres until you get to a T-Junction after Hermon. Go left here (marked R44 Porterville / R46 Ceres). This road will take you through the Nuwekloof Pass. 2kms after exiting the pass, turn right into 'Tulbaghweg'. In 1 km further, turn RIGHT again (at the very first crossing and opposite the 'Waterval' turn-off) At the T-Junction (150m further) you will see our gate and signboard on your right. ROUTE FROM CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: (1 hour): Follow signs out of the car park to the N2 on the Airport Approach Road. Merge onto N2 towards Somerset West and travel 6.1kms. Exit 22A and merge onto R300 towards Bellville. After 16kms turn onto N1 towards Paarl. Exit left at the R44 ( Wellington / Klapmuts ) off-ramp. Continue for 22kms. Just before you enter Wellington, turn left into Distillery Street which is signposted R46 (Porterville / Ceres).
